Video: Indi Tennis Backhand and Serve

indi's picture

This is my tennis video clip. It's easier for you to see the details by using full screen display.

I normally use single-handed backhand but now I want to have more control. My new double-handed backhand is shown in the first half of the clip.
The second half shows my serve using pinpoint stance (as opposed to platform stance). Some say that platform stance (feet apart) is much better, popularized by "Pistol" Pete Sampras.
I prefer to hit the ball near apex since it is easier to hit due to deceleration by force of gravity. My grip is loose near impact to create more efficient whip.

Please let me know what you think of my techniques. I need to learn more from you experts :)

Questions:
-Should I take the ball earlier during groundstroke?
-Should I adopt more modern open stance during groundstroke?
-Should I jump higher during serve?
-Is hitting the ball near apex a good thing?
-Should I toss the ball higher?

Thanks, y'all!

What should Indi do?

Indi,

This is what you should do: turn on the TV, tune to ESPN Sports, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show :).

tennis?

-Should I take the ball earlier during groundstroke?

No. Patience is the highest virtue, so the Buddhas say. I can understand you might be wondering when enough is enough, but in tennis, that's not really in your hands, is it? Face it, Indi: even the ball is rarely in your hands.

-Should I adopt more modern open stance during groundstroke?

Yes and no. In some cases, as long as it's modern, open, and more, it's good. In other cases, it's not. This entirely depends on what "groundstroke" mean.

-Should I jump higher during serve?

Certainly. It will make you look more serious, and your opponent might then appreciate the game better. You're not serving wine here, so you have nothing to spill. As long as you don't jump too high out of the video frame, that is.

-Is hitting the ball near apex a good thing?

Not if you will make the apex angry. Even though apexes might seem quite civilized in circuses and zoos, they're originally wild and boisterous. Or maybe you should try to ask the apex? If they would answer, then they're more the civilized type (and you can then hit the ball near them). If they wouldn't answer and just stare at you, prepare to run (you should take the ball with you as a weapon).

-Should I toss the ball higher?

Not if it's a bowling ball. It might fall back down faster than you thought.

Great advice!

Planet of the Apex is really the place for tennis. By being there, I feel like home. My game has improved ever since the Apex started staring at my butt position during service return.

-Should I take the ball

-Should I take the ball earlier during groundstroke?

Of course not, it will hurt the ball.

-Should I adopt more modern open stance during groundstroke?

Of course, this is not Taliban country.

-Should I jump higher during serve?

Yes but don't hurt the ball.

-Is hitting the ball near apex a good thing?

No it is not a good thing. I mean, the ball will hurt.

-Should I toss the ball higher?

Don't toss it, it will hurt the ball.

;-)

Ndi,
