Never Eat Alone

Since last week Rani has been in the mood for conditioning my brain before moving to Jakarta as a new professional. One of the many wonderful things she has discovered for me over at the public library is the book Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi. It is a book which is not only ideal for marketeers/business developers, but also serves as a pragmatic guide for those who want to be useful for people around them.

At first, I was worried that this book may sound too much like Anthony Robbins and his variants. But, boy, was I wrong! After the first chapter, I was immediately hooked! Luckily, Rani was able to get me the audio book version on CDs for me to listen in private (on the bus/train, or in toilet).

"life, like golf, is a game, and that the people who know the rules, and know them well, play it best and succeed. And the rule in life that has unprecedented power is that the individual who knows the right people, for the right reasons, and utilizes the power of these relationships, can become a member of the "club," whether they started out as a caddy or not..." - Keith Ferrazzi

I won't give you a spoiler but I can assure you that it feels great to be empowered again especially when you have so much to look forward to in 2008: a new career, a new (but old) environment, a new baby and a fresh perspective on social/business relationships. Life... can be exciting, again!

PS: If you want to give your loved ones something special for the new year, this is it.

One more book into my 'to

One more book into my 'to read' list.
However, I'd like to maintain my habit of having solo lunch at least once a week.
That is to allow my mind to think freely, popping up ideas, making plans, etc. while enjoying the meal.
