This morning I took Rani and Noe to Changi Airport to fly to Boston for a week. This will be the first trans-pacific travel for Noe and also the first long-haul trip with a young toddler for Rani (yup, Noe gets an infant airfare, not child).
Space Invaders was the first video game that I ever played in an arcade. My father used to take us (Anggi, Indi and Yodhi) to Mayestik (Majestic) in South Jakarta during on weekends in the early 1980s. He gave us coins to play this marvelous game of Space Invaders because we never owned ATARI, Nintendo nor VCR (we were poor, you see).
Indonesia has been in World Cup final. My bro Yodhi pointed me out to a BBC article that provides that fact. It was the World Cup Final in 1974. Take a look at the article in BBC website, see if you can find Indonesia
The last day Indi was supposed to wake up early for a game of golf, but the rain did not stop so everybody ended up waiting at the café and enjoying a prolonged breakfast amidst the rain. Finally, nearing 10am, everybody decided to cancel the golf game and boarded the bus to lake Maninjau.
It was a long yet scenic drive to the lake. We passed by a vegetable market, and I thought that I had never seen vegetable that fresh before. But who wants to buy cabbages that have been sat on for hours?
Last week's Labor Day holiday we went for a morning swim at Natasha's place. Luckily the water was really warm. We went to this shallow pool where the babies could roam around freely. Noe managed to master the skill of walking through water.
Indi and Noe and Yodhi gave me a ticket to the best seat for West Side Story in Esplanade. I was really excited about that!
Oh this photo below was taken by Indi during his turn to watch WSS. He got the cheapest ticket but with best balcony view too.
Indi woke up early to hit the golf course in Sawangan. I woke up a few hours later, and gave Siska her gift from ikea: a stovetop espresso maker. She then made a brew of Irian Organic Coffee, which really tasted strong, to my liking. I had chicken flavored oatmeal for breakfast while Noe had green pandan bread. At 8 am Ibu Tuti picked us up to drive to Sawangan to swim.
At the pool, I realized that I forgot to bring a towel. I had to buy the towel from the shop near the changing room. Practically not many people swim using 'normal' swimsuit. At the most, the ladies swim using swimsuit and shorts over it. Many people swim in t-shirt and shorts, even the guys. And interestingly, I saw quite a number of women wearing a muslim swimsuit. It is basically a bodysuit that covers the hair, and covered with a thin garb to obscure the shape of the body. This muslim swimsuit is of dark color to minimize the visibility. I'd say it works quite okay However, if you have a great voluptuous body, no matter what kind of swimsuit you wear, you would still appear voluptuous. Anyway, I felt I was wearing the least fabric in that swimming pool.
We flew to Jakarta for our cousin Bimo's wedding. This is Noe’s third trip to Jakarta. We flew using valuair, which we mistakenly bought three months in advance, not knowing that one month prior to departure Valuair gave special discount. Moral of the story: don’t buy air ticket far in advance.
A last minute decision, I went to Esplanade to watch Paquito D'Rivera with New York Voices as part of the Mosaic Festival. This decision only arrived 45 minutes before the show started, and I was lucky to get a taxi that rushed there.
